Dual Pinion Electronic Power Steering Gear

When a car is turning, the torque sensor "senses" the torque of the steering wheel and the intended direction of rotation. These signals are sent to the electronic control unit (ECU) via a data bus. The ECU, based on the torque and intended direction of rotation, sends an action command to the motor controller. The motor then outputs the appropriate torque as needed, thus providing power steering.

EPS Classification and Applications

 

C-EPS, also known as Column Power Steering (C-EPS), places the power steering motor on the steering column. Its disadvantage is that if not properly controlled, motor fluctuations can directly affect the steering feel. Being close to the driver's cabin, motor noise interference is greater compared to other types. Suitable for compact cars with low power steering requirements.

C-EPS

P-EPS, also known as Pinion Power Steering (P-EPS), places the power steering motor on the pinion gear of the steering gear. The disadvantages are the same as C-EPS: it directly assists the column, and motor fluctuations can also affect the steering feel. It has a compact structure and is suitable for small cars with low power steering requirements.

P-EPS

DP-EPS, also known as Dual Pinion Power Steering (DP-EPS), adds a motor-driven gear shaft. Its advantages are better quietness compared to the above structures, while providing greater power assistance. Since the motor acts on the rack, the impact of motor torque fluctuations on the steering feel is less. Suitable for mid-to-high-end vehicles.

DP-EPS

R-EPS, also known as Parallel Axis Steering System EPS (Rack EPS), uses a more precise recirculating ball screw (ball screw) power assist. The transmission principle is that the motor rotates, driving the screw nut to rotate via a pulley. As the screw nut rotates, the central steel ball moves, causing the screw to move left and right. Its advantages include high transmission efficiency and the ability to provide greater power assist, and it is mainly used in the commercial vehicle and luxury car markets.
