How is the thermal management system applied to new energy vehicles?

The thermal management system acts as the "temperature manager" of new energy vehicles, its core task being to ensure the battery, motor, and cabin operate within their optimal temperature ranges.

For battery thermal management, the system precisely controls temperature through liquid cooling or air cooling circuits. At low temperatures, a PTC heater or heat pump is used to heat the battery pack, ensuring charging efficiency and discharge performance. At high temperatures, coolant circulation carries heat to the radiator for dissipation, preventing battery overheating and potential safety risks, and significantly extending battery life.

Motor and controller thermal management utilizes an independent cooling cycle to efficiently remove heat generated by the motor and controller efficiently, ensuring continuous high-power output from the electric drive system.

Cabin thermal management has shifted from traditional PTC heating to high-efficiency heat pump technology. This system integrates multiple heat sources, including ambient heat and battery waste heat, to heat the cabin, significantly reducing winter heating energy consumption and effectively increasing vehicle range.

Advanced integrated thermal management systems can further connect the battery, motor, and cabin cooling cycles, enabling intelligent allocation and comprehensive utilization of heat throughout the vehicle. For example, using waste heat from the motor to heat the battery or cabin greatly improves the overall energy efficiency of the vehicle. It can be said that an efficient thermal management system is one of the key core technologies for improving the safety, durability, range, and comfort of new energy vehicles.
