Battery thermal management is a key technology for maintaining power batteries within a suitable temperature range, aiming to ensure safety, improve performance, and extend lifespan.

 

Lithium-ion batteries are extremely sensitive to temperature: low temperatures significantly reduce charging and discharging efficiency and capacity; high temperatures accelerate degradation and may even trigger thermal runaway, leading to fires and explosions. Thermal management systems, through active or passive methods, maintain the battery pack temperature uniformly within the optimal range of 15℃-35℃.

This unit has three modes, including cooling mode, heating mode, and self-circulation mode. The unit switches between these three modes based on the parameters feedback from the battery pack BMS.

 

 

①Cooling mode

The fan and compressor are turned on, and the high-temperature and high-pressure refrigerant is discharged from the compressor, entering the condenser for heat release and cooling. Then, it is throttled and depressurized through a thermal expansion valve for cooling. The low-pressure and low-temperature refrigerant enters the battery cooler and exchanges heat with the high-temperature coolant flowing out of the battery pack. The refrigerant absorbs heat and enters the compressor suction port, completing a refrigeration cycle. At the same time, the high-temperature coolant flowing out of the battery pack outlet passes through the water pump and flows through the chiller to obtain cooling, forming a low-temperature coolant that enters the battery pack inlet to cool the battery and complete a water circuit cycle.

 

The refrigeration mode is suitable for working conditions with high thermal load on the battery pack.

 

②Heating mode
The fan and compressor are turned off, the water pump and electric heater are turned on, and the low-temperature coolant is heated by the electric heater before flowing through the chiller and entering the battery pack to heat the battery.

The heating mode is suitable for working conditions where the battery temperature is too low.

 

③Self-Circulation mode
The compressor and electric heater are turned off, the water pump and fan are turned on, and the coolant circulates between the thermal management unit and the battery pack to remove the heat from the battery pack.

The self-cycling mode is suitable for working conditions with low battery thermal load.
