In the field of new energy vehicles (especially electric buses and commercial vehicles), integrated heating and cooling defroster (also known as heat pump defroster or integrated defrost/defogger) is an intelligent air-conditioning terminal device that integrates cooling and heating defrost functions. It is installed directly under the dashboard of the cab or under the front windshield, and is specially designed to solve core problems that affect driving safety, such as frost and ice on the glass in winter and fogging of the glass in summer.

Traditional defrosters typically only offer cooling (using air conditioning refrigerant for defogging) or heating (using engine waste heat/PTC heating for defrosting) functions, unable to independently control temperature year-round. In contrast, integrated cooling and heating defrosters combine the evaporator (cooling) and the heating core (heating) into a compact unit, working in conjunction with a damper actuator to achieve:

Summer Defogging: Utilizing a cooling cycle to reduce air humidity and quickly remove fog from the inside of the glass.

Winter Defogging: Using a heat pump or PTC to heat the coolant and melt frost on the outside of the glass.

Spring and Autumn Ventilation: Natural air circulation to maintain clear glass.

Especially important for electric buses: Without engine waste heat, integrated cooling and heating defrosters are an essential feature for ensuring safe travel in winter.

Typical Applications in New Energy Buses: Integrated heating and cooling defrosters have become standard equipment in electric buses, school buses, and commuter buses.

Typical Operating Scenario (Winter, -15℃ Environment):

Cold Start: The PTC water heater operates, heating the coolant from -15℃ to 75℃.

High-temperature coolant flows into the defroster's heating core.

Fan Start: The heated air (approximately 50℃) is blown towards the windshield.

Sensor Feedback: The glass surface temperature sensor monitors the temperature; power is automatically reduced once the target is reached.

Simultaneously: Some hot air is diverted to the driver's feet, improving comfort.

If fog forms on the inside of the glass: The system briefly switches to cooling mode for dehumidification before resuming heating.

Summer Scenario (High Temperature and Humidity):

The electric compressor starts, and refrigerant flows into the defroster evaporator.

The evaporator surface temperature drops to 3-5℃; water vapor condenses and is discharged as air flows through.

Dry, cold air is blown onto the glass, instantly eliminating fog.

The cab temperature drops simultaneously, improving driver comfort.
