Introduction to battery thermal management solutions

 

Battery thermal management is an important technical field in electric vehicles. It mainly solves the problem of heat generated by the battery during operation to ensure the safety, stability and performance of the battery system.

 

The following are several common battery thermal management solutions

Liquid cooling system: Liquid cooling system achieves thermal management by arranging coolant pipes and radiators around the battery module or battery pack. When the battery is working, the coolant circulates, taking away the heat generated by the battery, and dissipates the heat to the outside air through the radiator. The liquid cooling system has the advantages of good heat dissipation and high stability.

 

Air cooling system: The air cooling system introduces ambient air into the battery pack through fans and radiators to directly cool the battery. Compared with the liquid cooling system, the air cooling system has a simple structure and low maintenance cost, but the heat dissipation effect is slightly inferior to the liquid cooling system.

 

PCM (Phase Change Material) Thermal Management: Phase change material is a special material that can absorb or release large amounts of heat when the temperature changes. The PCM thermal management system places phase change materials around the battery module and utilizes its characteristics of absorbing and releasing heat to regulate the battery temperature and maintain it within a suitable operating range.

 

Electric heater: The electric heater can provide heating for the battery in low temperature environment to increase the operating temperature of the battery. When used in cold areas or winter, electric heaters can prevent battery freezing and improve battery performance.

 

Intelligent temperature control system: The intelligent temperature control system monitors battery temperature and ambient temperature in real time through sensors, and controls the work of cooling systems, heaters and other equipment based on real-time data to achieve precise temperature control.

 

The comprehensive utilization of the above technologies can effectively manage the temperature of the battery, ensure the safety, stability and performance of the battery, extend the service life of the battery, and improve the overall performance of electric vehicles. In actual applications, appropriate thermal management solutions can be selected for application based on battery type, vehicle design, usage environment and other factors.
