Operating Principle of Dual-Source Electric Steering

Pumps for New Energy Vehicles

1. Product Structure
The dual-source electric steering pump consists of a dual-winding permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), a vane-type steering pump, and insulating vibration-damping pads.

Building upon the foundation of a single-source unit, this integrated dual-source electro-hydraulic pump incorporates a low-voltage subsystem. The motor features a dual-winding design, sharing a common shaft and rotor, while the stator utilizes a partitioned slot layout. This ensures that even if the high-voltage side of the motor fails (e.g., due to burnout), the low-voltage side remains operational. The controller is integrated into the rear of the motor and employs an internal magnetic encoder to monitor the motor's rotational speed in real time.

2. Operating Principle

The dual-winding electro-hydraulic power steering pump assembly features a drive motor with integrated high-voltage and low-voltage coil windings that are structurally independent. The dual-source motor controller utilizes both the high-voltage traction battery and the low-voltage battery pack as power inputs, independently controlling the high-voltage and low-voltage windings of the motor.

Under normal operating conditions, the vehicle's integrated control system utilizes the high-voltage circuit to drive the motor and provide steering assistance, while the low-voltage controller monitors the motor speed and communication status. In the event of a fault in the high-voltage circuit, the low-voltage motor control system immediately intervenes, ensuring the continuous operation of the low-voltage emergency steering system.

In compliance with national technical safety standards, if high-voltage steering assistance is lost, the low-voltage system can provide steering support for at least 30 seconds, provided the vehicle speed exceeds 5 km/h.
